Light Years Choreographers is a lighthearted space for young dancers to develop and express their early choreographic ideas with peers and mentors.

Through the years, Rolypoly Family has facilitated and been witness to creative, compositional and choreographic choices made by young dancers. We created Light Years Choreographers as a platform to further develop and celebrate their unique artistic voices, at this very special age when they have a lot to imagine, contribute, and learn.

Designed for children aged 7-14 with prior experience in any kind of dance, the programme runs from November 2025 to May 2026 and closes with a vibrant showcase of the young dancers’ individual and group choreographic explorations.

In showcasing the artistry of young dancers from different backgrounds, we hope to share the richness and diversity of choreographic perspectives in Singapore.

WHO WE ARE

Light Years Holiday Dance Camp Directors

Bernice Lee and Faye Lim started Rolypoly Family together and are the Camp Directors. They are artists who dance, facilitate, choreograph, and make, including with their own children. They love collaboration and sharing creative spaces in community with others. Individually and together, they have shown work locally and internationally, including at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Dance Nucleus, The Substation, 72-13, ArtScience Museum, The Artground, and National Gallery Singapore.

Bernice was formerly a dance artist with Frontier Danceland and Maya Dance Theatre. She holds a B.F.A. in dance from The Ohio State University (2010) and an M.A. in Fine Arts from Lasalle College of the Arts (2022).

Faye holds an M.F.A in Dance and Choreography from New York University and a B.A. in World Arts and Cultures from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Rolypoly Family is dedicated to honouring children’s creative genius while supporting the artistic and socio-emotional learning of diverse young children, their families and communities. Led by dance artists Bernice Lee and Faye Lim, we produce delightful arts and dance experiences, such as performances, interdisciplinary projects, workshops, and body safety education from our artists’ intuitive choreographic and movement practices.

Our name is a statement of our beliefs – that families come in all shapes and sizes, that kinship can grow through creative and physical play (yes, rolling!), and that rhyming is as fun in language as in dance. Rolypoly Family is a division of Derring-Do Dance.
