SEEDLINGS

SEEDLINGS is a programme by the Esplanade, in collaboration with Chong Gua Khee and our director Faye Lim, to further develop child-centric artistic experiences within the national performing arts centre. It seeks to bring together a group of enthusiastic and arts-loving young people aged 7-12 years with diverse experiences and abilities. Participants attended a series of arts-based workshops, dialogues and performances as part of the March On festival programming and culminated in a public sharing that offered audiences the unique opportunity to hear more about the process and participants’ experiences.

SEEDLINGS’ pilot run started in November 2020, in preparation for 2021’s edition of March On. The latest edition in 2023 expanded to included a separate programme for SEEDLINGS Alumni, and the involvement of artists as SEEDLINGS facilitators.

Working with Faye from Rolypoly Family to co-conceptualise and co-facilitate SEEDLINGS, a children’s arts engagement programme by Esplanade for their yearly March On festival, has been a huge pleasure. Faye is incredibly thoughtful and attentive to both the children’s and the team’s experience, and for SEEDLINGS in 2022, even recorded long voice notes for the team in which she articulated and shared her thinking around principles and approaches to working with children. At the same time, Faye brings a lot of lightness and playfulness to the work, which is deeply energising and invaluable for engaging with children. Thank you Faye for all the wonderful work that you do (:
